KNOW YOUR RIGHTS, FROM SCHOOLS TO THE STREETS

Sun 4 May 2025 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM Kilburn, (Exact location shared upon registration)

In the last 18 months, we have witness the rise of state repression when protesting for an end to the Genocide in Gaza, as well as a general trend in increasing censorship and punishment of those of us protesting for our collective rights, freedom and dignity. Protest is a powerful tool of social change, and it is important that we fight back against the state's repression of protest, and share tactics and methods for keeping each other safe while we do so.

On Sunday 4th May, join No More Exclusions, Maslaha, Parents for Palestine and Books Against Borders as we bring together young people, parents and caregivers to discuss our shared experiences of protest and resistance, in schools, on the streets and in community. The event will cover what our legal protest rights are, how we can enact them, and we will discuss different strategies and systems for keeping each other safe while resisting state repression.

12:30 - 4:45pm: All Day Collective Collage

We will be running a collective collage throughout the day for people to drop into whenever they want. Help us build a collective expression and memory of protest. This will be held by Parents for Palestine, but is open to children and adults of all ages.

1PM Session 1: Youth Resistance

This workshop, led by Maslaha and NME, is aimed at young people (aged 11-16), and will cover your rights on protesting in and out of school, experience of resistance and solidarity, and how we can support each other to protest.

We are also offering a small stipend for young people taking part in Session 1, to honour your expertise and knowledge in the space.

2:30PM Lunch

Food provided (including halal, vegetarian, and vegan options)

3:30PM Session 2: Protesting as a Parent/Carer

This session, led by NME and Books Against Borders, is aimed at parents and caregivers, where we will talk through people's legal protest rights, and create space to discuss people's experiences and challenges when protesting with their children.

The discussions from this session will be used to create a guide for other parents engaging in protest with their young people.

3:30PM Session 3: Children's Experience of Protest

This session, led by Parents for Palestine, is aimed at giving young children a space to explore what protest means to them, through playful engagement and games. Age range is flexible, but aimed at 4-8 year olds.

Parents and caregivers are welcome to stay for the session, or attend the parallel Session 2.
